Woodland Estates opened in 1976 as a privately-owned family mobile park. In 1986, a number of residents decided to incorporate as Woodland Residents Incorporated (WRI), and purchase the property. In so doing they planned for all residents to be freed from arbitrary rent increases and the fear of being sold to a rapacious management corporation. With Floyd Johnson as President, and Margaret Winter as Secretary, Woodland Residents was incorporated on May 8th, 1986; adopted Bylaws on May 27th, 1986, and entered into an Agreement for the purchase of Real Property soon after.

Each property owner in Woodland Estates was eligible to purchase 12 shares in the corporation, and most residents did. These shares formalize the fact that each and every resident here is also a part-owner of the park itself. The residents (WRI) took out a 30-year mortgage on the property, and paid it off painstakingly at $177/ month until it was finally paid off in September, 2018. to celebrate, the residents held a “Mortgage-Burning Party” and ceremoniously burned a copy of the mortgage!

There is pride in ownership, and it shows in the neat gardens, tidy parks, and lovingly maintained grounds and homes of Woodland Estates.
